What is the method of using anhydrous calcium chloride as a desiccant?
Anhydrous calcium chloride belongs to neutral desiccants but cannot dry ammonia gas. Seaweed ash dried with calcium chloride can be used for the production of soda ash. Some household dehumidifiers use calcium chloride to absorb moisture from the air. Calcium chloride can also be used as a desiccant or dehydrating agent for gases and organic liquids. Its common applications include saltwater used in refrigeration equipment, road deicing agents, and desiccants.
Calcium chloride has outstanding adsorption capacity and low desorption temperature for ammonia, and has great application prospects in the adsorption and separation of synthetic ammonia. However, due to the difficulty of forming stable porous materials, the small contact area with gaseous ammonia, and the tendency to expand and agglomerate during adsorption and desorption processes, calcium chloride is difficult to apply in practical situations. Loading calcium chloride onto a high specific surface area carrier can greatly increase the contact area between calcium chloride and ammonia gas. Previous studies have shown that composite adsorbents prepared by loading calcium chloride onto molecular sieves have better adsorption performance and stability than single adsorbents.
Calcium chloride aqueous solution is acidic. Due to the hydrolysis of calcium ions, weak individuals exhibit strong properties when hydrolyzed. It can also be understood that water ionizes to produce hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions. The combination of hydroxide ions and calcium ions to form calcium hydroxide is slightly capacitive, so there are more hydrogen ions than hydroxide ions in the solution, making it appear acidic. The main raw material of anhydrous calcium chloride desiccant is calcium chloride, which is refined through processes such as reaction synthesis, filtration, evaporation concentration, and drying using excellent calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid as raw materials. Calcium chloride desiccant has the effects of adsorption activity, static dehumidification, and odor removal. Calcium chloride is an additive in plastics and fire extinguishers, used as a filter aid in wastewater treatment, as an additive in blast furnaces to control the aggregation and adhesion of raw materials to avoid settling of furnace materials, and as a diluent in fabric softeners.
